What causes dry feet? They might not be the most annoying skin issues, but it is still a condition that needs to be treated. Dry feet are not aesthetic, and they can also make you feel uncomfortable. We will look at some simple home remedies for dry and cracked feet, but first, let’s figure out what causes them.
There are several factors that can cause dry skin. You should pay more attention to them, especially now that the cold season is coming and our skin becomes more sensitive. Here are the main factors that lead to dry, cracked feet:
- Skin ailments like eczemas
- Chronic conditions like thyroid disorders
- Prolonged sun exposure
- Showers that are either too cold or too hot
- Low-quality cosmetics that fail to nourish the skin
This is what you should avoid in the future. Now let’s see how you can treat this problem at home.
1.Honey
Honey is one of those ingredients that bring a series of major benefits to your overall health. One of them is that it helps you solve dry feet issues. Honey is highly effective in softening the skin. Bow you understand why so many nourishing cosmetics include it among the main ingredients. To soften your feet, combine warm water with a cup of honey and soak them in for about a quarter of an hour.
The enzymes in honey will help your skin regenerate. Several sessions can repair those unpleasant cracks. Honey also has antibacterial properties and benefits the Immune System so it is definitely something to be taken into consideration.
2.Olive oil
Olive oil brings extraordinary health and beauty benefits. This oil has been used for hundreds of years as a skin balm. It is also very useful in treating dry feet because of its nourishing properties. You can apply it on the cracked skin of your feet and massage them for several minutes. The oil will moisture the skin and help it heal faster. The massage is beneficial because it will also enhance the blood circulation.
Olive oil can also be used in combination with other ingredients. You can add drops of lemon juice to olive oil and use it for massaging your dry feet. Another mixture that is effective includes lavender oil. Before you apply it make sure you thoroughly mix the ingredients until they become homogeneous.
A less common, but equally efficient treatment is a mixture of olive oil and oatmeal. This formula helps soothe the heals faster due to oatmeal’s repairing capacities. Apply, on your feet, the paste you get from these two ingredients and wash it after 30 minutes. For quick results, repeat the procedure every two or three days.
3.Coconut Oil
Coconut oil’s benefits for skin care are not new. Many people use coconut oil for its skin softening properties, but few know that it can also help to treat dry and cracked feet. You should use this oil after you had a shower and dried your skin, preferably before bedtime. Apply it on foot and then put on a pair of clean socks. The oil will moisturize your feet overnight and repair the cracks in the affected areas. In the morning, wash it off with warm water. Repeat the procedure several times a week.
4.Sugar
Maybe this is the first time you get beauty and health tips that include sugar. You probably already know that sugar is not the best thing for your skin. However, this only applies to your diet. When it comes to healing cracked heels, sugar is an efficient alley. You can use it to exfoliate your feet. Sugar is a very powerful exfoliant in combination with olive oil. Rub your feet with this scrub and insist on the areas that are severely damaged. Go on for about 10 minutes and when you’re done, wash the scrub with cool water.
5.Lemon and Vaseline
Lemon is another one of those superfoods that can treat several ailments and offer great benefits to our health. In skin care, lemon juice can be used in a variety of combinations or on its own. This fruit is usually used for its capacity to regulate the skin’s sebum. It is also a great source of vitamins that will make your skin look and feel fresh.
Used as a treatment for dry feet, lemon is efficient in combination with Vaseline. Mix them together until you get a thick paste, then apply it on the washed feet, before bedtime. Then put on a clean pair of wool socks that won’t get stained. In the morning, wash with warm water. This mixture will mitigate the cracks of your skin and soften your feet.
These are some basic treatments you can learn to do on your own. They are quite easy to prepare, and they are not time-consuming. Try at least one of these homemade treatments for dry and cracked feet before going to the drugstore.
