Have you ever had dinner in a small restaurant that has a home-based food menu?
I still remember when my husband and I visited Turkey; we really enjoyed having dinner in small places more than we did in big restaurants. I still remember Shawerma sandwiches, Shish Kebab, and my favorite dish; Dawood Pasha. Family style restaurants are cozy with an intimate atmosphere and people working there are often very friendly that you feel like you are at home. Not only you save money, but also, you get the chance to support families.
Family-based businesses are spreading widely across the US. Some of them have small workshops in their own homes.
Just as it is a big challenge for most to promote their products, it is sometimes hard to find them.
Thanks to jointle, an online marketplace, you get unique and limited eco-friendly products, discover local producers, and save money on products and supplies at the same time.
Makers also benefit from jointle as they put their offers (campaigns) and aims for the production of certain goods in specified time and for fixed prices.
I got the chance to try out one of the products listed on the jointle marketplace; which is the Organic Citrus Facial cleanser ($15) from Brittanie’s Thyme.
Brittanie’s Thyme owned and established by Nancy Metzger, a trained esthetician with extensive knowledge of herbs, is a USDA certified organic brand. All items are hand-made in a small facility in Cedar Springs, MI. Several of their skin care products have won national awards, such as Natural Solutions Magazine “Beauty with a Conscience” 2013 for the Organic Everyday Moisturizer, and Shecky’s “Beauty at Its Best” 2013 for their Organic Citrus Cleanser. In addition, Brittanie’s Thyme is a proud signer at The Compact for Safe Cosmetics.
I was so excited to get the chance to try out one of their best products.
I noticed that all products are USDA certified. They also produce their products in small batches to ensure freshness. Therefore, you get freshly made products every time.
Brittanie’s Thyme Organic Citrus Facial cleanser
The amber glass package, with an airtight pump, arrived quick and safe to my doorsteps. And I started using it the same day.
I usually apply minimum makeup, but I had the chance to use it to remove full makeup, too.
I like to use it as a daily cleanser, once and sometimes twice daily. It has a thick liquid consistency, with a pleasant citrus scent.
Since it is soap-free, it will not form lather as other soap cleansers, still it does cleanse my face thoroughly without drying my skin as it contains organic Aloe Vera extract. It also contains lactic acid (a member of the AHA family), which helps gently exfoliate your skin.
It has a light natural citrus scent from an organic origin that gives a refreshing experience when using in the morning. Leaving my skin clean AND moisturized each time I use it.

My Thoughts
I have the most complicated type of skin; combination skin, and that makes my mission for clean, moisturized, and non-greasy skin a bit hard. That was not the case when I used Brittanie’s Thyme Organic Citrus Facial cleanser. It never dried my skin, nor did it leave oil residue on the T-zone. On the contrary, I enjoy clean, well-moisturized skin every time I use it at an affordable price ($15). I noticed that I had to moisturize fewer times during the day since I started using this cleanser. So, I highly recommend it for all skin types.
While many prefer purchasing beauty products from big brands, it would be unlikely that you will get the chance to chat with the owner of the brand, discuss what you like or dislike about that product, or maybe ask for customized skin care product.
What I like about dealing with small brands is that you get the chance to ask, chat, tweak the product for your own personal needs, and above all have the opportunity to help your society by supporting small businesses.
