Dr. Song 20% Salicylic Acid Gel Peel Review

06/06/2015 //  by Dima Al Mahsiri//  Leave a Comment

Adult acne is one of the most annoying skin problems that I needed to solve. Just when I have a special occasion, or invited to a wedding, a large sized ugly pimple shows on my face. Vitamin C was very helpful, so does exfoliation, but I still needed a better solution for my breakouts.

I have combination skin with large pores, whiteheads, pimples from now and then and occasionally blackheads, too. I would love to get rid of them all. Therefore, when I had the opportunity to try salicylic acid, I did not miss it!

When I received Dr. Song 20% Salicylic Acid Gel Peel, I was hoping that it could help clear my skin.

Dr. Song Medicals is a global, integrated pharmaceutical and medical cosmetic company that specializes in research and manufacturing of products for licensed professionals and institutes in over 30 different countries.

In addition to salicylic acid, this peel contains SD40 alcohol, purified water, propylene glycol. The company claims that you can use it for acne, acne Scars, wrinkles, large pores and blackheads, oily Skin, psoriasis, razor bumps, and warts. Because salicylic acid clears pores, it helps getting rid of blackheads and prevents further pimples and breakouts.

How to Use Dr. Song Medical Salicylic Acid Gel Peel

First, I cleaned my face with a mild cleanser, and then I covered my lips with shea butter since they are too sensitive these days. After that, I applied a thin layer of this peel using a cotton ball.  This peel has a gel consistency, and you only need a little bit to cover your whole face. I received instructions via email, but I accidentally deleted that email, thankfully, instructions are also available on their website here.

I applied the peel waited for two full minutes. The peel has a clear thick consistency. At first, it caused my skin to sting, but at the end of the second minute my skin was like burning, so I washed my skin immediately using cold water. It looks like I left it on for more than my skin can hold, it has a strong acidic smell similar to that in the chemistry lab at college. My skin turned red, and I spent almost a full minute washing it with cold water.

It is very important to follow the instructions strictly. So read them carefully before using the peel.

Remember: to avoid irritation, you should test it on a small portion of your skin a day prior exfoliating. Make sure to avoid sunlight few days after peeling your skin since your skin will be sensitive.

How was my Skin Post Dr. Song 20% Salicylic Acid Gel Peel

The burning sensation and redness disappeared quickly after washing my face (it took only an hour). I applied my homemade whipped shea butter to cool down my skin. I usually use peels at night, but I used this one at noon, but I made sure that I was not going out during the rest of the day. My cheeks were the most sensitive part of my face, red and itchy, but the whipped shea butter cooled them down quickly.

The main reason why I wanted to try salicylic acid peel is that I have few breakouts from now and then. Vitamin C serum helped cure pimples, but there were still few stubborn painful ones that kept appearing from and then.

 My Overall Experience

After I used salicylic acid for the first time, I noticed that my pores have shrunk noticeably, no more blackheads, my face felt smooth, clear, and clean. Some reviewers mentioned that their skin peeled afterwards for days. My skin only peeled where it usually dries; around my mouth, but it only lasted for two days. I gently exfoliated my skin daily and  applied a moisturizer every few hours to help heal my skin fast. I liked how this peel removed all the dead skin, cleaned the pores and helped minimize them, it is absolutely a great product to use for oily and acne prone skin. I also noticed that there were fewer breakouts after peeling.

Remember that if you have a chronic acne problem, you should visit your dermatologist for consulting.

Have you ever used any of Dr. Song Medical products? Have you ever used a salicylic acid peel? Did it work?
