Over to you Allison 🙂
Coconut oil has become so popular over the past couple of years. All of a sudden it was everywhere, doing absolutely everything! It is definitely one of the most versatile natural oils around.
What can you do with coconut oil? Lots!
Cooking and Eating
▪ Cooking: Replace butter, margarine or other oils with coconut oil. Not only is it a healthier alternative to some other fats, it doesn’t burn at high temperatures the way other oils like olive oil can. You can even use it to popcorn, make French fries or use it in baking instead of vegetable oil.
▪ Eating: For those who eat vegan or dairy-free, coconut oil can be used instead of butter on toast or in recipes.
▪ Energy Booster: Add coconut oil to smoothies or even eat a couple of teaspoons full to help give you some extra energy. Coconut oil is made up of the best kind of saturated fats. Plus it has medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) that have been shown to help boost metabolism and play a role in a weight loss regimen.
Beauty and Personal Care
▪ Shave Cream: Instead of shaving cream, use coconut oil. Not only will it help protect skin from nicks with the razor, it will hydrate the skin at the same time.
▪ Eye Makeup Remover: Instead of petroleum-based products or even instead of buying a separate eye makeup remover, use coconut oil. Not only does it get rid of all traces of eye makeup including waterproof eye makeup, it does so gently. Added bonus is that coconut oil can help lashes grow long!
▪ Body Moisturizer: Skip the body lotion and use coconut oil instead for silky smooth arms, legs, anywhere etc. Before bed in the winter, apply coconut oil to dry skin on feet, put on socks, and wake up the next morning with softer skin. Or apply it to chapped hands before bed, put on cotton gloves and wake up with healthier, hydrated skin.
▪ Face and Body Scrubs: Mix with coarse sugar to make lip scrub or a body scrub. Mix with coarse salt or Himalayan crystal salt for a facial scrub.
▪ Bath Soak for Dry Skin: Add a few drops to your bath for all-over softness.
▪ Oil Pulling: Use coconut oil in oil pulling, the method of mouth cleaning and oral hygiene that has recently become popular that entails swishing oil around the mouth and through the teeth.
These are just a few of the zillions of uses for coconut oil. I’m sure you’ve got some of your own that I hope you’ll share in the comments. 🙂
Now, let’s get the skinny on Skinny Coconut Oil.
Are All Coconut Oils The Same?
I thought that all coconut oils were the same. Coconut oil is coconut oil, right? So I went to a large natural foods supermarket near my home, and I bought the store brand of coconut oil. It was a pale beige color, and it had no discernible scent. I used it for cooking, and it seemed fine. I used it as a moisturizer, but it didn’t moisturize very well for me. I wasn’t very excited about using it in all the ways that I outlined above. Finally, I ended up putting it in the cupboard and forgetting about it.
A few weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to try Skinny Coconut Oil.
Before it arrived, I thought it would be the same as the coconut oil that is collecting dust in my pantry. When I took the bottle of Skinny Coconut Oil out of the box, it looked different to me immediately. In addition to the packaging being much more eye-catching, appealing, and modern, the coconut oil itself looked different: it is white. I took the top off of the jar and took a sniff. The coconut oil has a lovely light coconut scent that I love. It both looks and smells like coconuts!
In addition to its coconut-y appeal, Skinny Coconut Oil is:
▪ raw
▪ cold pressed
▪ pesticide free
▪ unrefined
▪ wild harvested
▪ pure, virgin coconut oil.
It’s the real deal. In fact, Skinny claims to be the ONLY 100% raw coconut oil in the world. What does raw mean? All coconut oils are processed, but raw means it is processed under 115 degrees F. Because it’s raw and unrefined, that’s why it has a mild coconut scent. Pure, virgin coconut oil means that it’s made from the first pressing of fresh, raw coconut without the addition of any chemicals.
The Skinny Story
How did Skinny Coconut Oil come about?
The brand was started by two brothers, Luke and Matt Geddie, who backpacked throughout southeast Asia spending their time in a variety of ways beyond mere travel, from working as local business consultants in Asia to volunteering in orphanages in India. As they traveled the region, they fell in love with Vietnam. After eating and drinking coconuts and spending time in the beautiful Vietnamese jungle, they decided to start a business selling coconut oil that would help consumers, help themselves, and help the local communities and villages in Vietnam that grow and process the coconuts. That was about three years ago, and word has spread about their story and about the benefits of Skinny Coconut Oil.
On a slightly different but related topic, I just finished reading The Frangipani Hotel by Violet Kupersmith, a young American woman. It is a collection of short stories based on the culture, heritage, folklore, and history – both recent and ancient – of Vietnam. I adored this book, and it has stayed with me. I was so happy when I discovered that Skinny Coconut Oil is made in Vietnam and is a venture that helps local people.
Skinny Coconut Oil comes in a variety of sizes. The 8.5 oz size that I am using is priced at $15, the 16.9 oz size is $30. For heavy users, there is even a subscription service for $25 a month! It is sold through the Skinny Coconut Oil website and on Amazon.
And if you know someone who loves coconut oil, you can send her a gift set from Skinny Coconut oil, check it out here.
For me, Skinny Coconut Oil has replaced my favorite eye makeup remover, is a regular addition to my bath, soothes my exfoliative keratolysis (flaky dry skin on my thumbs), and I plan to make a lot of use of it this winter. Also, I love using it for cooking.

Your review is what I was looking for; it adds value for the reader. As many are looking for good products, we have to be honest and state the pros and cons of any product. I liked the way you compared between the two coconut oil brands. Hope this review helps others choose what is right for them.
