I used to think that I need a full coverage foundation to cover my imperfections. And for years, I was stuck to cover my blemishes using full coverage foundations. I used Elisabeth Arden Flawless Finish cream foundation for years, and it was good in covering dark spots, but on the other hand, it prevented my skin from breathing, pimples used to appear overnight whatever I do, and my face would sweat as if I am exercising just because it is a little bit hot. It wasn’t easy to keep a fresh looking makeup, and sometimes I ended up with a cakey face!
That is why I did not like to use foundation in my daily makeup routine. I usually cleanse, moisturize, and apply blush and lipstick. I decided that rather than covering my dark spots with a heavy layer of foundation, I should try curing them; using green tea, yogurt, and now vitamin C serum. I know I cannot get rid of them completely, but I succeeded in making them less visible, which is good!
I was still looking for a good foundation that has a good coverage, but still let my skin breathe. I read many reviews about Makeup Forever HD foundation, but I passed it on after discovering that it contains hazardous chemicals.
I think many women around the world have the same problem with foundations. Have you ever looked for a foundation that is natural, light, and covers well? Yes, I knew you did!
Recently, I received a Mini Mineral Makeup Starter Kit from Simple Beauty Minerals. And Lisa, the owner of the brand, was very helpful in picking the right shades for me.
I was not familiar with mineral makeup, so I did a little research and I was surprised by the facts that I found!
I thought: why didn’t I try it before?!
Mineral Makeup Pros:
- It provides a sort of sun protection, not the amount that you can rely on, but it helps along with your SPF product to block harmful UV rays.
- Most mineral makeup contains no preservatives and are odor free, thus do not irritate your skin.
- You can use them with confidence, mineral makeup sets on the surface of your skin, unlike other makeup products, which may reach your blood streams. That’s why mineral makeup are the best choice for sensitive skin as well as acne prone skin. In addition, mineral makeup is non-comedogenic, meaning it does not clog pores.
- They are light that you barely feel that you are wearing makeup!
- Minerals do not collect bacteria, i.e. it lasts for years.
Mineral Makeup Cons:
- Some mineral makeup products can be drying, causing wrinkles to be more visible. To avoid that, make sure to moisturize and prime properly before applying your mineral makeup.
- It can be a little messy when using loose powder, but with little patience and few YouTube videos, you will learn how to use it properly.
I received the following products in my Mini Mineral Start Makeup Starter Kit (price $25):
- Perfect Cover foundation in Warm 2 (3 grams) [Ingredients: Mica, titanium dioxide, zinc oxides, ultramarine blue, chromium green].
- Matte Finish Powder (3 grams) [Ingredients: mica, oxides, kaolin clay].
- Blush in Adobe (1 gram)[ Ingredients: Mica, titanium dioxide, magnesium stearate, oxides, ultramarine, blue, chromium green, some may have kaolin clay].
My First Mineral Blush!
Using mineral makeup can be messy and a little tricky to control! As I mentioned before, I had a little experience with mineral makeup, and dealing with loose powder was not easy at the first few times, but by time, I got used to the right amount needed and the right way to apply. Applying blush was the hardest, since 1-gram try me jar didn’t come with locking sifters, so I had to pick a small amount using a small spatula and put it in the cap of the blush mini jar. Since it is highly pigmented, a little goes a long way, giving a natural cheek color that lasted for about 8 hours.
Perfect Cover Foundation
Perfect Cover foundation was just perfect! It can give you light to heavy coverage, according to your needs. I normally use my brush to buff the powder all over my face, and then use an eye shadow brush to apply some more on my blemishes. I didn’t want to a use concealer from another brand, because I was testing the coverage of this foundation. It actually covered my dark spots quite well that they were barely visible.
I applied this foundation during days that were hot and humid, and I was happy by the results. This foundation didn’t clog my pores, and I didn’t sweat like an athlete! It was light but still providing medium to almost full coverage.
Depending on the coverage you need, there are three foundation formulas to choose from: Enriched Ultra Light foundation, Perfect Cover, and Sensy Rich foundation.
The Matte Finish Powder
The Matte Finish powder was necessary for an airbrushed look. It works great for my oily T-zone; absorbing oil and helping my foundation staying in place. On the other hand, if you have dry skin, you can try Silk Finish powder.

Lisa D Liguori
Hey Dima, thanks so much once again for the wonderfully well thought out review for Simple Beauty Minerals. I do have to apologize for missing the sifter on the blush! All our products come with sifters, so I am not sure how that little bugger escaped, but escape it did.

My pleasure, Lisa!
I really enjoyed playing with the products and trying different ways to apply, that was and still a pleasant experience!
Oh, the blush, that’s ok, as long as the fan is turned off, everything is under control 😉

I love mineral foundations and eye and cheek products! This is a new brand to me. When I use mineral foundation, I am sure to use a good moisturizer and a primer, since I have dry skin. Mineral foundations do the best job at covering up sun damage, I have found. But fyi, I use MUFE HD Foundation from time to time. You got me scared and I looked it up on EWG. Unfortunately, they haven’t reviewed the formula since 2010. Thankfully, they alerted on issues with allergies and use restrictions like endocrine disruption which I’m not too concerned about for the occasional use that I give it.
